Your Unique Value Proposition
A UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION IS SO POWERFUL!
IT’S TIME TO LEARN HOW TO SET YOURSELF APART FROM THE REST OF THE CROWD.
YOU MUST DECIDE ON YOUR UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION.
There’s great power in a UVP…and no, it’s not a disease!
If you’re at all familiar with sales and marketing, you’ve heard all about that critical UVP or Unique Value Proposition that every company needs to identify if they want to grow in their marketplace.
But have you ever considered how important it is on an individual basis to figure this out?
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE JUST A NUMBER, ONE OF THE CROWD, AT YOUR COMPANY?
Have you been passed up for a promotion that you were really interested in and believed you were qualified for, but no one ever considered you for it?
How do you get noticed?
As individuals we all have responsibility for our own personal and career development and opportunities.
Assuming that your manager knows you want to be considered for new opportunities to grow and learn (and if he/she doesn’t then shame on you), you need to examine your own abilities and learn how to market yourself. This is where knowing and speaking about your unique value proposition comes in.
3 WAYS TO CREATE TREMENDOUS POWER THROUGH YOUR UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION
Here are 3 things the really successful folks do that you can leverage for your own advancement at your company:
1. Build your own personal brand. Listen here, DO NOT underestimate the value you bring to the table and if you don’t fully understand what that is, be truthful with yourself about your skills, your passions, your values.
Whatever else you do to build your personal brand, ask for input from trusted people to help you figure this out because you can’t market yourself if you don’t know what it is you’re selling. Don’t try to be someone else either.
It’s critical that you are true to yourself so that you can figure out how you make the best impact to your career field and your company.
2. Create your own Blue Ocean (check out the best-seller book by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne and the free resources at the link). This is about creating value every.single.day. for your company.
Consider your competition and what they are doing to convince others that they’re better than you. Your competition may be other companies, their workforce or even your own co-workers.
Watch what they’re doing, but don’t worry about how to be better than them.
Geez, you got more important things to do! Figure out the best way to be valuable to your boss, your team, your company.
Focus on being the best YOU and identifying the unique value you bring. It will lead to greater success.
3. Be persistent in your quest for value. Never give up on finding that uniqueness that is authentic to you. Learn how to effectively communicate your value to your team and boss.
Never settle for less than the highest level of excellence you can achieve.
Remember, you have the power and control over your own unique value so don’t squander that power worrying about woulda, coulda, shoulda’s.
Be thoughtful about your behaviors and your decisions and keep going.
As our favorite business coach, Marie Forleo, says, “Keep going, because the world needs that special something that only YOU have.”
